A Quick Jaunt through Boston, Connecticut, and NYC

Quick Note: Portlanders, I’m taking the Knife Skills class at Williams Sonoma on NW 23rd,
Tuesday, July 24,  from 6-8p.
Would love some pals to join me. More info at bottom of post.

Our family spent a few weeks on the East Coast in late June early July.
Instead of me writing about our trip, I thought I’d share it through pictures.

First stop, Fenway Park, Boston. Red Sox vs. Toronto Blue Jays.
I even ate a hot dog and I can’t stand hot dogs. Seemed like I should.

Out on the Charles River in the “Duck.”

My favorite stop on Newbury Street in Boston’s Back Bay.

Can’t go to Boston without a box of Mike’s Pastry cookies all tied up in string.

Street performer outside Faneuil Hall. I wonder if her mother comes to watch?

I realize the quality of this Instagram photo is not the best, but I’m telling you the pizza is…the BEST!! Get on the next flight to New Haven, CT and get yourself to The Original Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana and order yourself up a tomato pie. Best pizza I’ve ever had!!

Decision making time outside Old Lyme Ice Cream Shoppe

“I don’t care what flavor it is…just get me some sprinkles.”
As for me, I can’t stop thinking about their Toasted Almond.

That charming New England architecture I couldn’t get enough of.

The cousins settling in on the Fourth of July Float.
Hard to tell if my little guy is enjoying being sandwiched by the girls with his Mona Lisa smile.

“What?? What’s wrong? Am I not supposed to pelt the onlookers in the head with my candy?? Isn’t that what it’s for?” says my almost teenager there on the left.

“Cock-a-doodle-doo!!! Wow! Check out the Rooster!”
Good thing I have him trapped here in the hen house.

“Well, look at me. I’m a lucky dog.”

Ashlawn Farm Coffee, Lyme, CT…the absolute, most charming coffee shop I’ve ever been to and, not to mention, their coffee was amazing. And just in case they didn’t have enough to do, they also host a Farmers Market here on Saturdays.

Ashlawn Farm had me at…”Enter.”

My girl in the shop sipping a Mango Italian Soda.

My sister-in-law’s vegetable garden. Have you ever seen a deer fence this good lookin’?

Paella on the fire pit.
The main attraction for my mother-in-law’s Birthday Celebration hosted by my brother and sister-in-law at their beautiful home.

Dishing up the paella. My stomach is grumbling just remembering how delicious it was.

The Birthday Girl blowing out her candles…with a little help from her granddaughter.

Just in case you were wondering, yes, he’s still in Times Square strumming his….guitar.

The New York City window displays…always lovely.

Strollin’ in SoHo like we own the place.

The eldest and youngest catching some rays in Battery Park with the locals.

Lady Liberty

To our family out there, “Thank you for everything! We miss you so!! xoxo”

  1. Ellen Saunders says:

Looks like a great trip! You hit all my favorite places in my new home town of Boston – it’s a fun city, isn’t it?

    • I absolutely loved Boston, Ellen. Can’t wait to go back and have you show me all your favorite foodie haunts. I loved the history too. Almost surreal…

  2. Great vacation photos, Carrie! I love the Instagram pictures on blogs but I do know what you mean – they’re not always the best but they do capture the moment – especially that delicious looking pizza! Glad you had such a fun trip. Thanks for sharing your family with us 🙂

    • Thanks, Sara!! We had such a great time. I wasn’t ready to come home. Believe it or not, I was enjoying the heat back there…better than the extended winter we have going on here. 🙁 Can’t wait to see your vacation photos, my friend!!

  3. Looks like you all had a wonderful time! I loved Boston and I can’t wait to get back there someday soon – now with a whole lot of new places to check out 🙂

  4. Hey! We were there too! Loved seeing the naked cowboy. I wasn’t successful in getting a photo of him though! Wish I had gone to a Red Sox game… maybe next time. Did you eat any lobstah while you were there??? My favorite at Mikes: chocolate chip cannoli!!
